We’re Coming to North Canterbury

Our odyssey to find a bit of land to call home continues! We’re leaving beautiful north Otago at the end of August, and heading up the coast to explore the potential of north Canterbury.

A sunny, organic, peaceful spot to park our house-truck would be epic! All contacts gratefully received.

We need:

  • Access for our 12m x 2.4m truck.
  • A hard surface to park on that’s 14m x 2.4 (the back door opens out to create a deck)
  • Water supply: unflouridated + unchlorinated. Though we can filter chlorine if needs must.
  • Access to power during a prolonged cloudy spell – our lead reaches 50m.
  • Somewhere to recycle our food scraps and compost loo.
  • A weeks stay at the minimum so I can work in between moves.

We have skills to exchange!

Me in your garden + Matt has a mad set of skills: tree work, builder, fix it guy and all round useful dude. We’ve been trading about 10 hours a week all up, for a parking spot.

Hi Kath, My husband Paul and I would like to offer your choice of several paring places at our place on Banks Peninsula. Contact me for location details. We’ve been growing our vegetables and fruit for about 25 years now. I’m a weaver (fabric). Paul has a microlight (he built it) and is also a general handyman. We have a lovely stream, are close to the ocean and our own well. We’ve planted about 25,000 trees.

  2. Hi,

We live in Whangaparaoa so I’m sorry I cant help with a place for you to park.

  3. Hi Kath!
Have you considered having a look around Banks Peninsula for land? There are plenty of beautiful bays with views of the sea. Also there may be some good microclimates to take advantage of for growing crops without frosts!

We live in Selwyn near Banks Peninsula and enjoy the open spaces. There are also no cropping farms near us (so reduced spray drift). It’s just 20 minutes from Christchurch too so an easy commute without too much traffic. We have a lifestyle block which was much cheaper here than North Canterbury.

You are welcome to park up with us for a week if you want to look around here!

    Cheers
    Abigail

  12. Hi Kath, If you do out out to the Banks Peninsula, would you be open to running a garden workshop in Diamond Harbour? There is a home food gardens collective over here that I reckon would be keen.
